Program Overview
Centennial College’s (Automotive) Motive
Power Technician – Technical program here is for you if your strengths are in
mathematics and physics, and your interest is in motor vehicle technology.
Because
the School of Transportation also offers an “administrative” version of this
offering, you will spend the first semester learning topics that are common to
both streams. This time will allow you to decide which path is best for you. The second semester will shift to a technical focus and
cover applied mechanics, vehicle dynamics and properties of materials,
providing a good understanding of component design.
Both streams will
include the same vehicle technology, and in-school content as the Automotive
Service Technician (AST) apprenticeship qualification.
To ensure that you
are comfortable with the many hands-on tasks you will complete in the field,
you will train on automobile assemblies in fully-equipped automotive shops.
Once you complete the
(Automotive) Motive Power Technician – Technical offering, you will be ready to
enter the industry and complete the exemption testing for licensing
qualification.
